Lincoln City O
The Lincoln City-O was a great event set in the Historic City in the East Midlands, UK.
The Mens open was a 4.6km course (straight line) around the cobbled streets of Lincoln including the historic sites; the Roman Ruins, the Castle, the Lawn and of course the Cathedral.
The course started in the Lawn and set out around the sites including the shopping district. This was very different to the streets of Venice as there were far fewer people!
The speed was a lot faster than usual and there were a lot of Lincoln uni students who didn't really have a clue what they were doing! It was a bit of a look and follow event with people even jumping over castle walls to get to their next controls!
I ran the first half quite quickly and seemed to run out of steam where the course turned around and headed back up the hill to the castle. This was a bit unfortunate as I seemed to lose the most time on these sections of the race.
The most tricky leg was from the Roman ruins to below the city wall (control 7-8). There was in fact only one route, but you had to look outside the box and go back on yourself and around the streets, round the back of the control and then in to the circle.
I finished in 2nd place, only 1'18s down on 1st place...so at least there is still something to keep me going!!
I'm starting to get my training back into line, after about 4 months out of the cycle. I feel quite fit and ready to tackle the new season.
