10th Struggle Fell Race
Today the Stanage Struggle took place at Hathersage in the Peak District.
The 6.5(ish) mile course takes in the sights and sounds of Stanage Plantation, leading up to the ever famous Stanage Edge; along to High Neb. The route then descends down the valley back to Hathersage Church and into the School Field to finish.
A lovely fell race with great conditions and only 1200' of climb - the weather looked ominous but the rain stayed away and fun was had by all, even Phil Winskill who managed to come 5th after being sick half way up the hill.
Top performances from Dark Peak were interrupted by John Hennigan (spelling?) who broke the record for the race by nearly a clear minute from Rob Little's 2006 record from last year's race. (37.30? / 38.30)
Thomas Edwards came a stunning 8th, his best result yet in a good field of runners, over 1.30 clear of the next ShUOC/SPOOK runner Andy Llewellyn who was just ahead of Mat Dickinson in 28th position in a time of 44.55, over 5 minutes faster than his last years performance.
