Back from Venice!

That time of the year came again to return to the canal-packed city of Venice.  The city of Venice is the glass gem in the heart of the Northern Med, but this time we didn't intent to do much sightseeing - but to race against the clock and test our concentration skills through the busy bussling streets of the floating city.

One of the best relays in the world.

The 25Manna Relay in Tumba, Stockholm was an amazing event with over 9,000 competitors. The eventual winners were Södertälje Nykvarn Orientering who took the lead from Kalevan Rasti on the last leg sprint finish! Västerås SOK came a credible 12th equal with orienteering legends, Halden SK.

Wales

Both the individual and the relay days used Pwll Du, an area of open hillside to the south and extensive old opencast workings to the north. The longest courses had challenging route choices and a plethora of small control sites to test the most accurate navigation.

Tio Mila

My first run for Västerås SOK was awesome. Probably one of the most terrifying races I’ve set eyes upon but it was also the most exciting thing I’ve done in a long while.

10Mila

Having not run for a Swedish club, and the largest relay event I've run in being the Jan Kjellstrom relay, the TioMila does seem a daunting thing to do at this point!

Mullgrave Woods

The event took place in Mulgrave woods, a steep sided valley in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors.

Seaside Scramble

The town was Scarborough and the discipline was a sprint. The map had been drawn by ex-ShUOC member Neil Northrop, who had spent countless hours creating his masterpiece – which was AWESOME – and the planner was Steve Whitehead.

ShUOC: Informal Social at the Red Deer Pub.

We were enjoying a quiet pint in the 'local' red deer with banter about fell races, orienteering and the like when lots of very overweight fellows of Sheffield decided to enter the pub.

Lincoln City O

The Mens open was a 4.6km course (straight line) around the cobbled streets of Lincoln including the historic sites; the Roman Ruins, the Castle, the Lawn and of course the Cathedral.
